Best Buddies Pet Pantry is an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit that provides free pet food to
qualified families in need in Northwest Indiana and Illinois. In Indiana it serves residents of Porter,
Lake and LaPorte Counties. In December 2013, the pantry expanded to provide assistance to family
pets in need at Bloom Township Center in Chicago Heights Illinois. As of June 2014, the pantry has
been providing pet food assistance to pets in need in Will County at New Lenox Food Pantry and
Frankfort Township Food Pantry.
Our Mission: during these difficult economic times, American families across the nation are
struggling to make ends meet and must rely on food banks to supplement their food sources.
Unfortunately, pets also suffer and do not get proper care and nutrition. Sadly some are disposed
of along side the road and starve to death. Many family pets are given up to animal shelters.
This causes overcrowding and increases the number of pets euthanized. The pantry's mission is
to help reduce the number of pets surrendered to shelters due to lack of food and help keep
families and their pets together.
Best Buddies Pet Pantry is in its 5th year of service in the community. It operates as a mobile
pantry, delivering pet food to 14 distribution sites in the bi-state area and providing emergency
pet food assistance. The pantry provides free pet supplies, cat litter and flea/tick treatment when
available. It also provides information for low-cost spay & neuter services and low-cost vaccination clinics.

In Memoriam - IL Team Leader Pam Clarage
It is with great sadness and many tears that I share this news with our supporters. Pam Clarage, our IL Team Leader, passed
away suddenly on July 30. Not only is she a dedicated volunteer but a dear friend. So proud to know her, work along side her
and call her my friend. Pam is an amazing person ... caring animal lover and mom to 3 tripawds (Timmy, Trea and Annabelle),
generous with her time, ideas and advice. She gave 110% to Best Buddies Pet Pantry and cared very much about the families
and pets in need in her community. She picked up donations, transported and prepared food for distributions, worked closely
with volunteers, attended events, designed our colorful event posters, organized paperwork, networked with other animal
welfare organizations. It was because of her unending passion and belief in the pantry's mission that our non-profit was
able to grow and expand to IL and provide pet food assistance to families in Cook and Will Counties. I will greatly miss her texts,
words of advice, sense of humor and smiling face. She inspired me to be a better leader and I appreciate her every day. Her
sudden passing is a huge loss ... not only for our team but for the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and
furbabies. There is a new bright star in the sky, as Heaven gained a true angel! Rest in peace sweet Pam ... we thank you for
a job well done. You will be forever in our hearts!
