Best Buddies Pet Pantry is an all-volunteer 501c3 Non-Profit organization that provides free pet food to families in need in Porter & Lake County Indiana. During these difficult economic times, American families across the nation are struggling to make ends meet and must rely on food banks to supplement their food source. Unfortunately, pets also suffer and do not get proper care and nutrition. Sadly some are disposed of along side the road and sometimes starve to death. Many family pets are given up to animal shelters. This causes overcrowding and increases the number of pets euthanized. The pantry's mission is to reduce the number of pets surrendered to shelters due to lack of food and keep families and their pets together.
Best Buddies Pet Pantry will be celebrating it's 1st year of helping the community in May 2012. The pantry has come a long way in a short time ... helping families in need in two counties and giving in excess of 2000 lbs of pet food to family pets each month. The pantry also gives free pet supplies, flea treatments and cat litter, gives information for spay/neuter services & low-cost vaccine clinics and offers help to pet owners for their own needs.
The pantry recently expanded to Lake County to help more families in need. Pet food is available at several township offices. See Page 2 for more information.
