Best Buddies Pet Pantry is an all-volunteer 501c3 Non-Profit organization that provides free pet food to families in need in Porter, Lake & LaPorte County Indiana. During these difficult economic times, American families across the nation are struggling to make ends meet and must rely on food banks to supplement their food source. Unfortunately, pets also suffer and do not get proper care and nutrition. Sadly some are disposed of along side the road and sometimes starve to death. Many family pets are given up to animal shelters. This causes overcrowding and increases the number of pets euthanized. The pantry's mission is to reduce the number of pets surrendered to shelters due to lack of food and keep families and their pets together.
Best Buddies Pet Pantry is now in it's third year of service in the community. It operates as a mobile "pet pantry on the go", taking pet food to various distribution sites. The pantry also provides free pet supplies, cat litter, flea & tick treatments, information for spay/neuter services & low-cost vaccine clinics. It also offers emergency pet food assistance to families & family pets in need. In it's first year, the pantry helped over 500 different families with pet food assistance. Currently the pantry distributes almost 5000lbs of pet food monthly to qualified pet owners in Northwest Indiana.
